Finding Your Signature Look: 10 Tips for Uncovering Your Personal Style

  1. Get Your Mind Right - Forget all of the "rules" and faux pas associated with style and adopt an, "I wear what I want" attitude.

  2. Assess Your Current Wardrobe - Look at the clothes you currently own and identify what you love and feel good in. Notice patterns, colors, silhouettes, and designs.

  3. Find Inspiration - Search for style inspiration from various sources like fashion magazines, social media influencers, or style icons whose fashion sense resonates with you. Pinterest is a valuable platform for creating mood boards dedicated to unlocking your personal style.

  4. Basics Are Your Best Friends - At the heart of most (if not all) top-tier looks are some quality basics. Why are basics important you ask? They give you endless outfit combinations and pair well with the unique stand-out pieces that give your wardrobe a lot of style.

  5. Know Your Body Shape - Understanding your body shape helps in choosing clothes that flatter your figure and accentuate your features. Embrace your unique body and dress to highlight your best features.

  6. Play Dress Up - Don't be afraid to try new things! Experiment with different styles, textures, and combinations to see what feels right for you. This is also a strategic way to identify ways you can pair those items in your closet with tags that are collecting dust.

  7. Quality Over Quantity - Invest in a few high-quality pieces that fit well and will last longer, rather than many low- quality items. Fast fashion is not your enemy however, adopting this tip has allowed me to streamline my wardrobe and practice sustainability. Oftentimes, less is more.

  8. Expensive Does Not Mean Better - Don't be fooled by the perception of expensive items equating to high-quality. In some cases, luxury items can be comprised of low-quality materials. Don't find yourself in a situation where you are solely paying for the name (of a brand).

  9. Dupes Be Duping - In the event you want to try a new trend but do not want to dedicate your wallet to such a hefty price tag, look for a dupe instead! In fashion and beauty contexts, a "dupe" refers to a product that is very similar to a higher-priced or brand-name product, but sold at a lower price.

  10. Use A Tailor - Good tailoring can elevate a garment from "UNFLATTERING AF!" to "SLAY SIS!" If you found a piece you love but discover the fit is ill-fitting than it is worth a visit to the tailor. Proper tailoring can refresh a wardrobe or even make you fall in love with that old pair of trousers at the very back of your closet.

Remember, personal style is all about expressing yourself, so focus on what makes you feel good and confident!
